Individual Therapy
A private space to understand yourself more deeply and change from the inside out.
Individual therapy is a space to look inward honestly and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. We work to uncover the conscious and unconscious patterns that shape how you think, feel, and relate, with close attention to what unfolds in the room between you and your therapist as a window into your inner world.
This is not a short-term or protocol-driven approach. Rather than offering standard recommendations or quick fixes, we focus on understanding the full emotional and psychological story that has brought you here. By working through the experiences and patterns that have accumulated over time, therapy becomes a process of healing through awareness, helping you move toward greater confidence, freedom, and emotional steadiness that lasts.
Couples Therapy
Understanding the emotional patterns that shape your relationship and changing them together.
Couples therapy helps partners understand and shift the emotional patterns that shape their relationship, especially those that lead to conflict, distance, or feeling stuck in familiar cycles. Together, we explore how each partner’s history, defenses, and needs interact in the present, creating greater clarity, empathy, and emotional safety.
This work is not only for couples in crisis. Many partners come to therapy to grow closer and strengthen their foundation as they move through major life transitions such as having children, navigating extended family, or relocating. Therapy provides a structured, thoughtful space to deepen intimacy and build a relationship that can adapt and endure over time.
Family Therapy
Addressing the system beneath the symptoms.
Family therapy is grounded in the understanding that difficulties do not arise in isolation. They emerge within a family’s emotional system, history, and often unspoken roles. Symptoms are viewed not as individual failings, but as signals of deeper relational patterns within the family as a whole.
We help families recognize these patterns, communicate more openly, and develop healthier ways of relating to one another. By addressing the system beneath the symptoms, therapy supports greater stability, mutual understanding, and a more connected and resilient family life.
How it Works
How it Works
The process begins with a free 15 minute phone consultation to determine fit and discuss next steps. From there, we schedule weekly sessions, either in person in Manhattan or virtually across New York, where we begin the work of understanding your patterns, emotions, and goals. Therapy is collaborative and paced around you, with an emphasis on meaningful and lasting growth rather than quick solutions.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The first step is a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. It’s a chance to talk about what brings you in, get a sense of whether we’re a good fit, and discuss next steps. If it feels right, we’ll schedule a full session to begin the process. Therapy works best when the relationship feels like a natural fit, so this initial call helps ensure that.
-
Session fees vary depending on the clinician you work with. Please contact us directly for current rates and availability. We accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA cards. During your consultation, we’ll discuss fees, scheduling, and any available lower-fee options with associates if needed.
-
Sessions are typically 45 minutes in length unless otherwise discussed. Extended sessions can be arranged when clinically appropriate or if you prefer more time to go deeper. All sessions are by appointment only.
-
The first few sessions are focused on getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. We’ll explore your current concerns alongside your history, relationships, and emotional patterns, with attention to what naturally emerges in the room.
Sessions are conversational and collaborative, without worksheets or preset techniques. Therapy is paced around you, with the goal of building insight that leads to meaningful and lasting change rather than quick fixes.
-
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which allow for consistency and a rhythm to the work. Because Apex Minds Psychotherapy is psychoanalytically oriented, some patients may choose or benefit from meeting multiple times per week, depending on their goals and what’s happening in their lives. The intensity of the work often deepens with frequency, and we’ll decide together what feels right for you.
-
Therapy doesn’t follow a fixed timeline. Everyone’s process is unique, and the depth of the work unfolds at its own pace. Some people use therapy to work through longstanding patterns and relational themes, while others see it as an ongoing space for reflection and growth. The focus isn’t on how quickly you finish, but on how deeply you understand yourself.

Apex Minds Psychotherapy is an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance directly. Many clients with out-of-network benefits receive partial reimbursement once their deductible is met. Reimbursement rates vary by plan but are often in the range of 60 to 80 percent.
Clients with plans through the following insurance companies frequently have out-of-network mental health benefits, though coverage is not limited to these providers:
• Aetna
• Blue Cross Blue Shield
• Cigna
• UnitedHealthcare
• Oxford
• Empire BlueCross BlueShield
• Anthem
• Humana
• Meritain Health
• UMRCoverage depends on your specific plan, not just the insurance company, so we recommend confirming benefits directly.
When you contact your insurance company, consider asking:
Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
What is my deductible, and how much of it has been met?
What percentage of each session is reimbursed?
Is there a session or annual reimbursement limit?
What is the process for submitting claims? We provide detailed superbills on a monthly basis to make the reimbursement process as straightforward as possible.
